menswear fall 11: cable knit

Photobucket

Cable knits were present throughout the men's fashion weeks. Linked to the heritage trend - still the favourite style for menswear - the cable knit has Celtic origins, and was made popular by the Aran jumper (sweater), also referred to as a fishermen sweater. The jumper takes it name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland, where the local fisherman would wear the thick jumpers to keep warm, and the cable design was thought to bring good fortune.
