For SS11 Miuccia Prada looked to 1920-30s entertainer Josephine Baker, who gave rise to the Art Deco movement in France, and was one of the first African-Americans to star in a film. Prada brought the excitement, colour, and flamboyancy of Baker's shows to the collection. Every little detail, the bananas, monkeys, right down to the stripes, paid homage to the inspiring performer. The stripes a tribute to the eccentric house that famed architect Adolf Loos designed - but was never realised - for Baker.
