Internationally renowned for their swimwear, the label’s ready-to-wear line is well regarded in Australia for being directional, yet wearable. Choosing to show offsite—like many designers this season—sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmerman presented in a bare, luminescent space that allowed for a careful inspection of their intricate paneling and laser-cut lace. Titled “Halcyon Days,” which refers to a calm, idyllic past period, the white, cream, tan and dusty pastel collection had prairie themes that were contrasted with more modern looks. Fluid breezy dresses, skirts and trousers were cast with strong-collared, cap-sleeved jackets and stiff linen tops. Long, full-sleeved dresses in heavy lace were given dramatic splits while others had cutout detailing and a sense of confidence that is no doubt the result of a label that knows that after two decades it is more relevant than ever.</span></span></p><p style="margin-bottom: 5px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">When the first model walked out in a sparse white dress, it was difficult to reconcile that this was an </span></span><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline; "><a href="http://arnsdorf.com.au/" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: none; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Arnsdorf</span></span></a></span></strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> show; Jade Sarita Arnott, the designer behind the label, is recognized for creating structured clothing. For the first five or so looks, everything was pure white and clean silhouettes were reminiscent of ‘90s Calvin Klein. There were also hints of sportswear, such as mesh tops and lightweight hooded jackets—another area Arnott had not previously explored. Just as the audience was wondering if the designer’s restrained aesthetic also meant a lack of color, a model appeared in creamy mint shorts and a matching top. Next came neon pink silk jackets and tapered trousers, draped dresses with an orange, purple and pink tie-dye effect and neutral-hued dresses with glowing green stripes.</span></span></p><p style="margin-bottom: 5px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">With slick aesthetics ruling the first few shows, it was nice to see </span></span><u><strong><a href="http://gailsorronda.portableshops.com/" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: none; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Gail Sorronda</span></span></a></strong></u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><strong></strong> embracing voluminous silhouettes. Perhaps inspired by the sunny landscape of her homeland, the Croatian-born designer embraced brights and dramatic prints. Staged at </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">the Opera House’s “Studio” space, the brand’s show, which marked their 10th year, was one of—if not the most—anticipated of the week. It was also the first time in five years that the label has shown in Australia.</span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />Waiting around the bar for the show to start, one could feel a renewed energy in the air. Inside, a large digital screen was suspended above the square runway, displaying an archive of Lover’s first ten years, suggested a retrospective. Working in a palette of three hues—red, black and white—Sussien Chong and Nic Brand put forth their most refined, accomplished collection to date. Inspired by the Chinese mythology of the White Serpent, the designers played with dualling masculine and feminine aesthetics; blazers were softly tailored while tuxedos had delicate lace detailing.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=ManningC-1.jpg" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/ManningC-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></span></span></a></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Showing offsite the next day, Manning Cartell aptly chose a sun-filled room to reveal a North African-themed collection. Inspired by the colors and textures of desert plains and sandstone walls, the three Manning sisters presented elegant, polished garments with hints of opulence. The designers played with different textures, using leather fringe, looping string and heavy beading, which created bold black-and-white stripes. Thick rope was tied around silk summer jackets and adorned the collars of understated floor-length dresses.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=AandT2.jpg" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/AandT2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></span></span></a></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Making a debut at RAFW, Amber and Thomas strayed from their signature minimalism. By strayed, I mean briefly wandered off track and then returned. Designers Amber Hourigan and Thomas Williams generally work in a muted color palette and refrain from ornate detailing. This season, however, they incorporated a variety of bright blues, large diamond prints and suede fringe. Still, their classic shapes and long lines endured, as did the earthy tones we have seen in previous collections. The pair said they aimed to create easy, chic looks, which is just what they achieved.</span></span></div>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-35301241755692860722011-05-05T11:01:00.005+10:002011-05-05T11:07:16.985+10:00Dion Amber Hourigan and Thomas Williams, the designers behind the Australian brand, have found that elusive balance between being directional and accessible. This May, the label will make its highly anticipated debut at Australian Fashion Week.<br /><br />Jean Kemshal-Bell: What made you want to start Amber & Thomas?<br /><br />Amber Hourigan: Fashion is something that my family has been involved in one way or another pretty much my entire life. I started working as an assistant for a stylist even whilst I was at high school. It’s always been in my blood—I just wasn’t sure which way I would go with it. Also, because I didn’t study fashion and I was never that great at drawing, it kind of scared me off it. I never thought that if I wasn’t a fantastic drawer, I could ever be a fashion designer, which of course is completely untrue. Then when I met Thomas a few years ago we got talking about it and threw around some ideas and then it all just started happening from there.<br /><br />Jean: Was it always your intention to include swimwear in your spring/summer collections?<br /><br />Amber: We actually started with swimwear. I’ve just always—my entire life—struggled to find swimwear that I responded to. I’m not an overly girlie-type person. I’m not overly sporty and my aesthetic is quite classic, but modern. Also, the fit as well; finding the right fit has plagued me and a lot of my friends our entire lives. Whilst we had intentions the whole time to do the full collection, it was definitely a great place to start—a good place to cut our teeth, for lack of a better term.<br /><br />Jean: How would you describe your aesthetic?<br /><br />Amber: I’d say it’s quite sophisticated/modern, we use a lot of very clean lines and we’re not into over-designing garments or any details that are too fussy. Even when we use something like sequins or embroidery, we always keep it quite clean and simple.<br /><a href="http://dossierjournal.com/style/fashion/in-conversation-with-amber-thomas/"><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Read the rest over at Dossier Journal</span></a></span>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-9698758092190713362011-04-14T12:53:00.003+10:002011-04-14T13:51:04.298+10:00the graduates: published on broadsheet<a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=LauraAnderson2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/LauraAnderson2.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Laura Anderson)<br /></div><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=LauraAnderson-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/LauraAnderson-1.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Laura Anderson)<br /></div><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=SarahMok2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/SarahMok2.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Sarah Mok)<br /></div><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=Sangeeta.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/Sangeeta.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Sangeeta Singh)<br /></div>.<br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=Sangeeta2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/Sangeeta2.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Sangeeta Singh)<br /></div><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=AnaDiaz.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/AnaDiaz.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Ana Diaz)<br /></div><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=Jessicaoconnor3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/Jessicaoconnor3.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: right;">(Jessica O'Connor)<br /></div><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Read my piece on the fashion graduates over at <a href="http://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/fashion/article/fashion-graduates">Broadsheet</a></span>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-83874646982658312802011-03-26T21:03:00.003+11:002011-03-26T21:30:10.348+11:00milan: fall 11<span style="font-size:130%;"><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=MilanFW2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/MilanFW2.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Gianfranco Ferre, No. 21, Missoni, Max Mara. Despite having some of Australia's top designers in the show, it didn't attract the B-grade celebrity crowd that was at the men's show the night before, which was nice.<br /><br />I was really excited to see Dion Lee's AW11 collection because I hadn't really had a chance to check it out properly prior to the event. Non-surprising it was a stunning collection, his technique really is amazing - remember this is a designer who only made he debut a couple of years ago. It is easy to see why Willow and Scanlan & Theodore are so respected in the industry, even from the runway you can see the quality of each piece.<br /><br />I wasn't really into the following designers, which I had already anticipated before the show - simply because they are not my style. However, I could appreciate how the glamorous, party-style dresses would be popular with lots of women. Collette Dinnigan presented lady-like lace looks, while it was brights, colour blocking, fur and sequins for Jayson Brunsdon. Aurelio Costarella showed short party frocks and Toni Maticevski was all about feminine sequin-detailed dresses.<br /><br />I'm pretty happy with how my pictures turned out, much better than the student runway.<br /><br /><br />WILLOW<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB12copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB12copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB3copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB3copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br /><br />SCANLON & THEODORE<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB11copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB11copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB10copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB10copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />DION LEE<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB8copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB8copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB13copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB13copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />JAYSON BRUNSDON<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB14copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB14copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB9copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB9copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br /><br />AURELIO COSTARELLA<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB5copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB5copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB6copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB6copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />COLLETTE DINNIGAN<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB7copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB7copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />TONI MATICEVSKI<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HB4copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HB4copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=HBcopy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/HBcopy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a></span>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-29692764548227575022011-03-18T15:49:00.008+11:002011-03-21T13:20:39.661+11:00lmff: graduate showcase<span style="font-size:130%;"><br />The student runway is always one of my favourite events to attend. Their collections are always the most innovative and creative. This year there were designers from Curtin University (WA), University of Technology (QLD), RMIT (VIC) and University of Technology (NSW).<br /><br /><br /></span><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;" >ANNA DIAZ</span><span style="font-size:130%;"> (University of Technology, QLD)<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students5.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students5.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Diaz presented wearable a collection of on-trend pieces including soft leather skirts, pleat shorts and loose-fitting trousers. Her work also reflected her refined technique.<br /><br /><br /></span><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;" >SANGEETA SINGH</span><span style="font-size:130%;"> (RMIT, VIC)<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I'd seen Singh's work on the Discount girls' blog, so I anticipated seeing it in the flesh. Singh menswear collection is where I hope to see menswear heading over the next few years. It's experimental, yet wearable and holds the belief, which I share, that men like women want to be adventurous with fashion too.<br /><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">JASON HEWITT</span> (RMIT, VIC)<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students7.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students8.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Tribal prints, bold colours, and a fantastic structured yellow and black zip two piece. Clean lines and simple cuts. White on white and clever detailing. I really liked Sala's collection, and she had found that balance between being creative yet wearable.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">OUTPOST by JESS O'CONNOR</span> (University of Technology, NSW)<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students13.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students13.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Chunky knitwear with detailed jacquard pieces. I think knitwear is an exciting medium, so it was great to see one of the young designers taking it on.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">LAURA ANDERSON</span> (RMIT, VIC)<br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students3.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=students4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/students4.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Anderson's experimental structured lingerie was really stunning. It was both light and dark, at times gothic, at others ballerina-esque. I liked her use of mixed textures, using feathers, sheer fabrics, and faux fur.<br /><br /><br />I also enjoyed <span style="font-weight: bold;">GENEVIEVE KULESZA'S </span>(RMIT) fun collection of bright printed lingerie and <span style="font-weight: bold;">KATE WATSON'S </span>(University of Technology, NSW) loose, draped, Frankie-esque collection, but my camera was playing up at the start of the show. </span>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-20495897827209062032011-03-14T13:04:00.004+11:002011-03-14T13:15:29.369+11:00out: ula lauch at comeback kid<a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=ULA.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/ULA.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Brothers Hand Mirror played. style=";font-family:";font-size:100%;" ><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">Appearing on various runways at the recent New York Fashion Week and now at London Fashion Week, the turtleneck looks set to become a trend for the cooler months. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">Originally sported by seamen at the turn of the century, the turtleneck became a popular look for men during the 1920s. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No%C3%ABl_Coward">Noel Coward</a>, the English composer, playwright and actor, was at the forefront of the trend, inspiring middleclass men to adopt this look. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">It wasn’t until after the feminist movement that women started to wear this then masculine style. Soon silhouettes became sleeker, and the tight sweaters became a sexy way to emphasis the female form. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">By the 50s the turtleneck, also called a polo neck, came to be known as the ‘anti-tie’, a way to dress smart without conforming to traditional formal wear standards. Its neat, conservative appearance made it a popular preppie style. <span style=""> </span>Yet over in France, during the same period, black turtlenecks became a symbol for leftist bohemians and intellectuals. The beat movement brought this look to the US, and Britain followed suit. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">The 60s and 70s saw the turtleneck trend move into the mainstream, becoming a staple in both men’s and women’s wardrobes, and wearing one was no longer a clear statement of an individual’s class or political stance. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">It is this latter era, the 70s, which has captured many of the designers’ imagination for Fall 11. In New York,<a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/F2011RTW-MACOLL/"> Max Azria </a>teamed tight, thick turtleneck sweaters with loose pants and tailored jackets, <a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/F2011RTW-JLSTUART/">Jill Stuart </a>paired gold-belted cableknit turtlenecks with coloured trousers, while at <a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/F2011RTW-MJACOBS/">Marc Jacobs</a> lightweight sweaters were tucked into metallic calf-length pants. Over to London and <a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/F2011RTW-PAUL/">Paul Smith</a> – like many of the designers this season – was inspired by <i style="">Just Kids, </i>channeling Smith during the 70s, while Mulberry went for form-fitting, feminine styles.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">While hard to pull off – especially if you have a large head or a short neck – when they do work they exude sophistication, elegance and subtle sex appeal.</span></p>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-87733392713843434962011-02-18T21:00:00.002+11:002011-02-18T21:13:32.923+11:00nyfw: fall 11<a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=NYFWFALL115copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/NYFWFALL115copy.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=NYFWFALL113.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/NYFWFALL113.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=NYFWFALL114.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/NYFWFALL114.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />The favourites from the final days. The pop-up store has one-off samples and pieces from the Opticks collection. The store is there for three days only, with sales up to 70 per cent off. I bought a pair of one-off olive green silk trousers. For those in Melbourne, head to 90 Moor Street Fitzroy before Sunday afternoon.</span><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><br />P.S. Jill Stuart had some nice looks, mixing textures and prints; Rag and Bone, nice and bright; and although I'm not the biggest fan of the 'ladylike' trend I can appreciate the beauty of Marc Jacobs' fall collection.</span>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205246181635361093.post-87854863305638537542011-02-08T19:54:00.002+11:002011-02-08T20:37:06.327+11:00deserted<!--[if have only two seasons under their belt. For their third collection, autumn/winter 2011, designers Amber Hourigan and Thomas Williams have found that difficult balance between being directional yet accessible – something that can take young labels years to master, if at all.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:130%;">Inspired by the deserts of North America, <i style="">Deserted</i> explores the colours and textures of the burnt planes. The designers draw on traditional Native Indian art, the zigzag blazer, blouse and dress, brings to mind colourful woven items, while whip stitching, a Native American technique, is used through the soft leather dress and shorts.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:130%;">At the risk of being simply a ‘trend’ collection, the designers offer fresh, interesting takes on colour blocking, fur and soft leathers. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:130%;">While a relatively relaxed collection of loose long skirts, wide-leg silk pants and flowing blouses, the more structured leather pieces work well to achieve the overall aesthetic of the hardened land.<span style=""> </span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:130%;">Amber & Thomas have just introduced an accessories range of studded leather clutches and bags available for autumn/winter 11, and you can now also shop at their online store.<br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:130%;"><br /></span></p><span style="font-size:100%;">This article was originally published on <a href="http://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/fashion/article/deserted-amber-thomas-aw11"><span style="font-style: italic;">Broadsheet</span></a></span><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=AT2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/AT2.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/?action=view&current=AT3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz233/JeanKemshal-Bell/AT3.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a>StudFarmBloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13999509604166139575noreply@blogger.com0
